HONG PAK COUNTRY TRAIL

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

A slope to climb in the beginning, and then a simple flat route with great views - so fulfilling!

Difficulty Rating: 5/10

Duration: 2 hours (including rest stops at viewpoints)

Cell Service: 5/5

Instagrammability: 3/5

The first 45 minutes is simply uphill on a paved road, without much views. However, once the trail begins, there are several viewpoints that aren't blocked by trees. Moreover, the trail itself has lush greenery with perfect picture spots!

How To Get There:

  • Take the MTR to Quarry Bay station via the blue island line. Take Exit A: King's Road, Taikoo Place and turn right. Walk along King's road for 5 minutes until you see a bridge. Take a right on Mount Parker Road when you see the sign for 'Mount Butler Road Green Trail' (image 1).

  • Walk up Mount Parker Road along the paved path (image 2). This walk is for 1.5km, and will take around 45 minutes. There will be many different trails along this path, and the 'Quarry Bay Tree Walk' will mark the midpoint of your walk (image 3).

  • Keep going on until you see the sign for 'Hong Pak Country Trail' (image 5), and take a left from there (image 4). The trailhead will be on your right.

  • The path is quite straightforward with several viewpoints. Midway through the hike, you will come across an intersection. Keep to your left (image 6) and follow the signs towards 'Korn Hill' all through.

  • Continue on the main trail and keep to the left. Whenever there are stairs, stick to that path and keep going downhill. At the next intersection, take the route on the left (image 7).

  • Once again, follow the sign towards 'Korn Hill' (image 8).

  • At the next intersection, turn left again (image 9). To be safe, you can also check on Google Maps to ensure the path you're on leads to Tai Koo.

  • Finally, you will reach the end of the hike that is marked by a trailhead, 'Tai Tam Country Park (image 10). From here, follow the signs for about 10-15 minutes towards Tai Koo MTR.

We sat on a rock overlooking the view for over an hour without noticing the time!
